Direction of Stretches

As the low back is normally able to move in many directions, stretches need to reflect that degree of movement in order to restore normal flexibility and function.

Movements requiring attention include:-

  • Flexion
  • Extension
  • Side Bending
  • Rotation

Some specific Low Back conditions will prevent full restoration of flexibility.

Spinal stenosis will have ongoing restriction of extension.

Restoring flexibility with different restriction patterns is detailed in the Back-in-Rehab Programme.
